Above is a screenshot of my bike miles spreadsheet. I enter the current odometer reading, and the spreadsheet kicks out all those numbers.
I only had enough time before the snow hit to ride the Backsafer (my first recumbent bike) for 330 miles in 1998, so to figure the long-term annual average, I start with the 1999 year's mileage.
The Rans Vivo, arrived March 24, 2000. and on the last ride, it had 42,733 miles on the odometer. Sad to say, it is now gone. It will be sorely missed... On May 23, 2009, it was destroyed by a head-on crash with an All Terrain Vehicle that was being driven on a NON-MOTORIZED bike trail. See the pictures on the "Bike Crash!" page, it's not pretty...
But, on the brighter side, since that ATV/Bike crash, I have pedaled my two current bikes (Street Machine & Turner Long) 51,679 miles. I feel pretty good about that since back in July of 2009, no one knew if I would be able to walk, work, or ride a bike again.
I am so thankful that the Lord God that I beleive in has healed me so well that I can go out and really ride again. I missed it like crazy during the summer of 2009. The time spent with the wheelchair, walker, and cane was not fun.
May 1, 2010 was a fun day for me. My wife and I rode to Charlevoix and back home for a round trip of 63 miles. That was the first time I have done my favorite day ride since the 2008 riding season. I was only able to ride 1,002 miles during 2009 because of all the injuries from the crash (see the "Bike Crash" page). Also on the same ride, I passed the double Equator (49,804.8) overall mileage, and my wife saw her odometer hit 10,000 miles! It's a little bit fun seeing the odometers counting up all those miles.
I think we bought her Burley late summer of 2004. May 6, 2024 Donna saw her odometer hit 45,000 miles! (See the picture on the "home page"). Later on the same ride, I watched my odometer hit 48,500 miles. Today (Nov.16, 2024) I went out for a 17 miles ride just so I could see my odometer hit 51,000 miles! All just for fun...
NOTE: on July 3, 2024, Donna passed 50,000 miles combining the miles of her Bike E, her miles on the Easy Tandem and her Burley!
Here, I am including a screen shot of her section of the bike miles spreadsheet:
According to a NASA website, The distance around the world at the Equator is 24,902.4 miles. Starting out on Sept. 26, 1998 through July 18, 2024, I pedaled 4 times around the world (99,609 miles). Well, after that, I pedaled the StreetMachine another 391 miles so that I would have this:
Starting Sept. 26, 1998, I have ridden these five recumbent bikes for this many miles:
Backsafer 4,391
EZ Tandem 2,314
Rans 42,733
Turner 679
HP Velotechnic StreetMachine Gte 49,883
Add those 5 bikes together = 100,000 As of Aug. 8, 2024 - I have pedaled 100,000 miles.
Then, a few miles later on August 19, 2024 during a ride, I stopped to get this picture:
That is a picture of the odometer on my current bike - the StreetMachine Gte, I had to record that one!
I have only ridden any motorcycle about 40,000 miles!
I will try to update this page often during the riding seasons. Well, if I can stay off the bike long enough...
